Bizarre river creatures

River is home to some of the millions of fresh-water type of animals – not to mention its body is being lurk by the creepiest river monsters day and night. These type of monsters are like the ones your mom used to scare you when you’re just a kid. Creatures straight from your nightmare, actually.

Vampire Piranha

A close relative of the piranha, the payara is often called the “vampire fish” because of its long fangs, which can grow to 6 inches in length. This little-known but frightening-looking fish is found in the Orinoco River in Venezuela.

Goliath Tigerfish

When your name is “Goliath,” you’d better be one humongous, ferocious creature, and the goliath tigerfish definitely lives up to its moniker. A native of the Congo River basin, the Lualaba River, Lake Upemba and Lake Tanganyika in Africa, it’s the largest member of the tigerfish clan, a genus of fierce predators with protruding, daggerlike teeth. The biggest one on record was nearly 5 feet long and weighed 154 pounds, the equivalent of a super-welterweight prizefighter. And it outclasses other African game fish in speed and power.

African lungfish

Not a pretty fish, the African lungfish is a harmless but truly frightening-looking river monster. The largest specimens can reach about 6.6 feet in length. African lungfish are periodically exposed to water with low oxygen content or situations in which their aquatic environment dries up. Their adaptation for dealing with these conditions is an outpocketing of the gut that serves as a lung.

Piraiba Catfish

Jeremy Wade holds a 72-pound, 5-foot-long piraiba catfish. These formidable fish can grow to over 10 feet in length and 600 pounds in weight. This powerful fish can drown a wrestling fisherman by dragging him to the bottom of the river. One story tells of a fisherman diving down to untangle a fishing net and vanishing, only to reappear hours later over halfway down the gullet of a giant piraiba.

Nile Perch

The Nile perch is considered one of the world’s 100 worst invasive species, though Jeremy caught this one in its native habitat. This species can grow to 6 feet in length and weigh over 500 pounds. This river monster has caused catastrophic declines among native fish populations in areas where it’s been introduced.

Weird handbag ever

I can’t believe there are people who would actually buy this sort of hand bag. In my opinion it is not cute at all, if that was the original idea, but it is deeply disturbing and I can’t bare looking at it.
It looks like some sick taxidermist killed, shaved a stuffed some poor puppy and then made a handbag out of it.
There are even signs of Louis Vuitton over the bag. Maybe it was made as some sort of protest against using real animal leather in making handbags, but I couldn’t find any info about it on internet.
What do you think about this handbag? Would you ever buy something like this or do you think it’s a bit too much?

Man in a red England shirt get Weird Bull attack face to face

Resting his chin in his hands and enjoying the Spanish sun, this man in a red England shirt has no idea that he is about to come face to face with a rampaging, enraged beast.

Seconds later he is fleeing for his life as one bull leaps into the stands at a bullring and charges through the crowd.

At least 40 people were injured when the 1,100lb animal scaled the perimeter fence in Tafalla, Spain.
Hmmm, that bull is starting to get a little close to the fence: The man in the England jersey, circled, watches the creature - seemingly oblivious to what is about to happen

OMG: The Lion comes face to face with 1,100 pounds of fury as the bull leaps over the perimeter fence. The England fan must have been able to feel the creature's hot breath in his face

I'm an England fan, get me out of here! The fan - who by now has lost his sunglasses - puts valuable feet between him and the bull

Among the injured was a ten-year-old boy, who was taken to hospital with serious stomach wounds. One man was gored in the back.

The incident happened during an event attended by about 3,500 spectators, in which contestants known as recortadores try to get a bull to charge at them so they can dodge it.

But the bull jumped out of the ring, clearing two barriers before landing in the stands and lurching through the screaming crowd, charging at everything it could.

He appeared to be taking particular aim at the man in the England jersey.

But, despite the phrase 'like a red rag to a bull', the animals are actually colour blind. When a matador waves his red cape in the ring, it is the movement, not the colour, that attracts the creature.

One brave spectator even grabbed the bull by the tail in an attempt to slow it down. The animal had already tried to jump into the stands twice.

After damaging a horn, it was about to be returned to the corral and replaced with another bull when it tried a third time and succeeded.

The panic on Wednesday lasted for several minutes before handlers managed to rope the bull and bring it under control. It was later killed.

Most of the injuries were minor and were treated by medical staff on site, but five victims were taken to hospital in the regional capital of Pamplona, best known for its annual San Fermin running of the bulls festival. Three were still being treated last night.

Among the walking wounded was Inaki Zunzarren, who was badly bruised. He said: 'The bull caught me and hurled me against the concrete seating.'

The incident comes at a time when Spain is split over whether bullfighting should be outlawed.

Last month Catalonia became the first major Spanish region to ban it after a heated debate that pitted animal rights against traditional culture.

Top 10 Strange Facts About YOU

1 – Body Position Affects Your Memory

Can’t remember your anniversary, hubby? Try getting down on one knee. Memories are highly embodied in our senses. A scent or sound may evoke a distant episode from one’s childhood. The connections can be obvious (a bicycle bell makes you remember your old paper route) or inscrutable. A recent study helps decipher some of this embodiment. An article in the January 2007 issue of Cognition reports that episodes from your past are remembered faster and better while in a body position similar to the pose struck during the event.

2 – Your Skin Has Four Colors

All skin, without coloring, would appear creamy white. Near-surface blood vessels add a blush of red. A yellow pigment also tints the canvas. Lastly, sepia-toned melanin, created in response to ultraviolet rays, appears black in large amounts. These four hues mix in different proportions to create the skin colors of all the peoples of Earth.

3 – Big Brains Cause Cramped Mouths

Evolution isn’t perfect. If it were, we might have wings instead of wisdom teeth. Sometimes useless features stick around in a species simply because they’re not doing much harm. But wisdom teeth weren’t always a cash crop for oral surgeons. Long ago, they served as a useful third set of meat-mashing molars. But as our brains grew our jawbone structure changed, leaving us with expensively overcrowded mouths.

4 – Your Stomach Secretes Corrosive Acid

There’s one dangerous liquid no airport security can confiscate from you: It’s in your gut. Your stomach cells secrete hydrochloric acid, a corrosive compound used to treat metals in the industrial world. It can pickle steel, but mucous lining the stomach wall keeps this poisonous liquid safely in the digestive system, breaking down lunch.

5 – Bones Break (Down) to Balance Minerals

In addition to supporting the bag of organs and muscles that is our body, bones help regulate our calcium levels. Bones contain both phosphorus and calcium, the latter of which is needed by muscles and nerves. If the element is in short supply, certain hormones will cause bones to break downeupping calcium levels in the bodyeuntil the appropriate extracellular concentration is reached.

6 – Much of a Meal is Food For Thought

Though it makes up only 2 percent of our total body weight, the brain demands 20 percent of the body’s oxygen and calories. To keep our noggin well-stocked with resources, three major cerebral arteries are constantly pumping in oxygen. A blockage or break in one of them starves brain cells of the energy they require to function, impairing the functions controlled by that region. This is a stroke.

7 – Thousands of Eggs Unused by Ovaries

When a woman reaches her late 40s or early 50s, the monthly menstrual cycle
that controls her hormone levels and readies ova for insemination ceases. Her ovaries have been producing less and less estrogen, inciting physical and emotional changes across her body. Her underdeveloped egg follicles begin to fail to release ova as regularly as before. The average adolescent girl has 34,000 underdeveloped egg follicles, although only 350 or so mature during her life (at the rate of about one per month). The unused egg follicles then deteriorate. With no potential pregnancy on the horizon, the brain can stop managing the release of ova.

8 – Puberty Reshapes Brain Structure, Makes for Missed Curfews

We know that hormone-fueled changes in the body are necessary to encourage growth and ready the body for reproduction. But why is adolescence so emotionally unpleasant? Hormones like testosterone actually influence the development of neurons in the brain, and the changes made to brain structure have many behavioral consequences. Expect emotional awkwardness, apathy and poor decision-making skills as regions in the frontal cortex mature.

9 – Cell Hairs Move Mucus

Most cells in our bodies sport hair-like organelles called cilia that help out with a variety of functions, from digestion to hearing. In the nose, cilia help to drain mucus from the nasal cavity down to the throat. Cold weather slows down the draining process, causing a mucus backup that can leave you with snotty sleeves. Swollen nasal membranes or condensation can also cause a stuffed schnozzle.

10 – The World Laughs with You

Just as watching someone yawn can induce the behavior in yourself, recent evidence suggests that laughter is a social cue for mimicry. Hearing a laugh actually stimulates the brain region associated with facial movements. Mimicry plays an important role in social interaction. Cues like sneezing, laughing, crying and yawning may be ways of creating strong social bonds within a group.

Bizarre Mutilated Dolls!

Think dolls and toys and you’ll more than likely come up with warm, fuzzy memories of childhood and playing with that year’s must-have game.

Whether it’s a Furby, He-man or Barbie, it’s all about good wholesome fun. Top artists in America are exploring that idea and turning it on its head with a range of one of a kind dolls specifically designed to give you the creeps.

If you can imagine Sindy with a chainsaw, Action Man with a penchant for body mutilation or teddy with an axe to grind – quite literally – then you’re halfway there.

The popularity of creating scary or freakishly deformed dolls as artwork is growing all the time in the States and customers can buy readymade one of a kind creations (known as OOAK) or commission a ghoulish masterpiece of their very own. Each of these pieces is painstakingly constructed for the maximum scare factor and dolls can be as grisly or macabre as the imagination allows.

The self titled “creepy dolls” from Newagedolls are lovingly hand-crafted by artist Jade Perez and mutilation, injuries, aliens and monsters are common themes in her work. These angry little dolls have even been known to have real human teeth. Each poppet is given its own name - unsurprising if you consider that they are unique works of art.

More surprising might be the innocuous titles each one goes by, such as Captain Spaulding, Shawn, Santa and Ellie.

Strangedolls.net is the brainchild of artist Beth Robinson who produces distinctive dolls made from polymer clay, vintage fabric and acrylic paint.

Talking about her work, she said: “These odd dolls are hardly something you will find in a toy store… they are misproportioned, strangely dressed, and they have a character uniquely their own.”

These strange dolls, which are hand-made and feature human hair and even dog teeth, each fit into categories such as accidents, misers, stitch bitch or mother’s first victim.

Accident dolls are beautifully crafted and each has met some kind of misfortune, such as a nosebleed or amputated hands, while Mother’s First Victim are a series of fanged vampire dolls.

Artist Shain Erin thinks outside of the box when it comes to his visionary models, creating doll sculptures which are both intriguing and terrifying.

These disturbing pieces can be grouped into zombies, ghosts, mummy art and fine art sculpture. At first glance these intricate dolls may appear to be fairly normal on the creepy doll scale, but further inspection reveals hair that is actually doll arms, eyes that are really the shells of former sea creatures and mismatched limbs. Erin truly takes the doll art form to extremes to challenge the conventions of even the scariest of doll makers.

For something a little friendlier on the creepy doll-o-meter Tattered Rags offers beautiful, unique rag dolls with a nod to the Goth movement.

Produced with artist Jodi Cain’s interest in punk, gore and gothic fashion, these little gems are what would happen to your average childhood toy if it had a psychotic episode.

Each of these dolls is custom made and in a little over a week you could be the proud owner of your very own psycho clown, killer Little Red Riding Hood or cleaver-welding rag doll.
